Why You Should Have a Social Media Presence

As a follow-up to our last blog post about having a website, something else you should consider when building your brand and marketing: having a social media presence. Social Media, for the past 20+ years, has become a staple in the lives of millions of people. Connecting with friends and family, sharing life achievements, recipes, funny videos and memes - if you were to ask 100 people on the street if they had any sort of social media account - there's an excellent chance at least 90 of them would say they currently have, or did have, a social media account. Many people use social media recreationally, but you could also be taking advantage of social media from a professional perspective.


  • One of the most enticing things about (most) social media sites is that they're free to sign up with. Google, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and similar websites allow anyone to create an account and have access to what the websites offer.

  • Websites like Pinterest and Instragram are useful for hosting large quantities of pictures - which is great for promotional and marketing purposes.

  • LinkedIn is a networking social media site, allowing you to connect with like-minded individuals in professional settings, and expand your network.

  • Facebook is like a jack-of-all trades, allowing you to post updates, videos, images, join groups, follow pages and public figures.

  • Having a Google Business page is a great way to be discovered on the Google search engine.

  • Although not traditionally used for professional content, creative minds can advertise and market using Snapchat and TikTok.

  • In addition to having a social media account on these platforms, most of them have advertising and marketing opportunities and can help you reach different demographics.

  • You can connect social media accounts to your website, and other social media accounts, to create a network for your business!
